There was a time when it was possible for a person to get their manuscript published without the benefit of an agent. Many authors, including Stephen King, had several books published before they signed with an agent. If you are an aspiring writer and are content to e-publish your manuscript, you can still do so without the benefit of an agent, however if you aspire to get your novel published through traditional means, you are going to want to look for an agent.
Before you can even start to think about querying an agent, you need to finish your manuscript. If the agent likes your sample and query letter, they are going to want to read through a finished draft of your manuscript, and they aren’t going to want to wait for you to finish it.
Most agents’ guidelines can be found online. You will want to read through these guidelines and make sure that you follow them to the letter. Agents have created these guidelines for a reason, and most will dismiss any author who cannot follow the instructions, and chances are they won’t even look at the manuscript. You will also want to make sure that your manuscript fits within the type of story that the agent likes to market. If you have written an adult contemporary murder mystery, and the agent is only interested in young adult paranormal novels, you should look for a different agent.
Don’t try to tease an agent. If they ask for a detailed synopsis that is exactly what you should provide them. Don’t try to hide the resolution or important plot points. This type of game playing will only irritate the agent and make them wonder if you have not yet completed the manuscript. Excluding bits of your manuscript is a really good way to get rejected.

One of the hardest parts about writing a novel is that there always seems to be a time when you get stuck. Once you hit one of these sticky sections, it is very difficult to motivate yourself to continue to writing. One of the things that you can try using to help get the inspiration to start flowing again is a deck of tarot cards.
The great thing about using tarot to help you get out of a sticky section in your writing is that there are so many different ways that you can use it. There are literally hundreds of different spreads that you can try, numerous decks you can use, and different meanings that can be connected to the cards. Thanks to the internet, you don’t even have to own a deck of tarot cards, as there are several websites where you can get free virtual readings.
Some writers don’t use traditional tarot layouts to help them deal with writers block. All they do is draw a single random card and look at the picture. With a little bit of luck, the image will light a fire under their imagination, and they will suddenly feel like writing again.
Other writers prefer to go with a traditional layout. When they get stuck, they shuffle the cards and ask the fates for a solution to their characters problem. After that, all they have to do is translate the card’s meaning into their story.
Combining tarot and writing novels is nothing new, and for as long as anyone can remember, authors have been turning to the cards. There are even some authors who claim to have based their entire books and the personalities of their characters on tarot card layouts.

Writing is hard, really hard. One of the hardest aspects of writing is getting started. Most writers find that if they can just get through the first draft, there is a far greater chance that they will complete their manuscript and take the steps to get it published. The problem is that most writers hit a wall during the writing process and just give up.
Thirteen years ago an organization known as NANOWRIMO (National Novel Writing Month) was formed. In the beginning it was a joke, just a group of friends who dared each other to write the first draft of a novel during the month of November. The friends had so much fun that they created a website that encouraged others who dreamed of writing a novel to write a first draft during the month of November. Each year, membership on the website grows and people all over the world clear their calendar during November and start to frantically type. Many of the participants have gone on to publish their manuscripts.
Nanowrimo does two things. The first thing is that it essentially lets writers know that first drafts are generally miserable. Many would-be writers tend to think that a first draft should be on par with a finished, published manuscript that they purchase at the bookstore. Nanowrimo stresses that this is not the case at all, they urge participants to stop worrying about things like proper grammar, fluid plots, and well-developed characters. The way that Nanowrimo does this is by encouraging the participants to focus on a daily word count rather than the actual contents of the story.
The other thing that Nanowrimo provides is a sense of community. Under most circumstances writing is a very lonely prospect. Nanowrimo members are encouraged to communicate with one another. Knowing that there are thousands of other people going through the exact same thing that you are is sometimes all writers need to give them the confidence to keep writing.

While working with the clay, stabilizing your arms is something you need to remember. Bracing your arms against your body will help stabilize your hands while working with the clay.
Take pride in what you accomplish. Any progress is worth celebrating. When you have mastered basic technique, start making pieces to give away to friends and family. Giving pieces away is rewarding.

Coping with Grief During »
As someone who has lost a loved one, coping with the holidays without the one you love can be devastating. It is a difficult time and you miss seeing them during these special times. Many people feel like these are the hardest days when someone you love has passed away. They can become days you dread instead of being excited for them. There are ways to cope with grief during the holidays.
One way to cope with grief is to do something different than you would usually do during that holiday. Changing things can make the day seem different and may make it go by faster. Most people will go somewhere they have never been during the holidays or eat at different restaurant than they usually do. This is a great idea and may help the days go by easier. Another way to cope is to not be afraid to cry. It is ok for you to be sad and it is ok for you and your family to talk about the grief you feel. This can bring closeness and help honor that person who is gone by talking and remembering them during these days.
Coping with grief will look different for every person. We all grieve differently and need to do it the way that creates the most healing for us. The holidays can be a time of honoring our loved one and they would want us to have a full and happy life regardless of how we feel. That is how we move past the pain and begin to see the blessings in disguise. As a Christian, the best way to cope with grief is to lay it down at the feet of Jesus and let Him be the strength and healing needed.

As a writer, I often do reviews of various local businesses to publish in the newspaper or through online magazines. Wendy is the owner of a small dance academy in her hometown. She began dancing as a preschooler and developed a love for teaching others about dance.
